Have you ever wondered what kind of resume is best for all the different scenarios where you need your resume now? For example:
- When submitting your resume for a job through a company's career website you will probably submit it as a text file with no formatting. Having a text only resume will help you when you need to submit one through a company's career website that does not allow you to upload your resume.
- When applying for a specific job you should tailor your resume for the job rather than have a generic resume.
- How about a resume in pdf format? Did you know you do not need Adobe Acrobat to save your resume as a pdf? There are several free utilities available that will create a pdf file through your word processor. Check out "CutePDF"...it is available for free and works great. www.cutepdf.com
- Cronological vs Functional? Many HR Professionals say the chronological resume is what they prefer; some said they really don't know what to do with the functional resume so they wind up in the waste basket.
- How many pages? Many HR Professionals will tell you to keep your resume down to 2 pages. What if you're a 20 year veteran with a lot of experiences? In that case a 3 page resume should not hurt your chances to land the job; just write with a critical eye and cut out unnecessary fluff.
Our website also allows you to network with other veterans who are registered on our website. You can create a profile similar to MySpace and other social networking websites. For example you can install any of the following modules for your profile:
- MyBlog - create your own blog and optionally allow other members or public to comment on your entries (you can delete inappropriate comments)
- MyPictures - Create albums of pictures to share with your friend and colleagues. Pictures are easily uploaded, resized and displayed anywhere on your profile.
- MyLists - Create a list of your favorite websites, music, DVDs, other profiles. Each entry can be linked to a another web page or file.
- MyText - want to tell others more about your self then your general profile allows? This is where you can do it, just add a MyText module and type away.
- MyProfile - this is the main module on your page that lets people know about you - how to contact you and what your interested in.
- MyFriends - make friends and network.
- MyRSS - Display your favorite RSS feed on your profile
- MyGuestbook - guestbook for users to sign on your profile
Each module can be;
- configured with an icon, title and a selection of borders
- can be moved around the users profile or removed.
- has its own editing functions which are simple and straightforward for your users to complete.
- Users choose what information from their core DNN profile is shown.
- Send to a Friend link so users can share their profiles with other members or the outside world
- Choose from 5 pre-defined layout templates or create your own Profile Template that new users can clone.
- Make your profile public or private - private profiles are visible only to other members on your friends list.
- Optionally add basic details to your profile such as phone numbers, email addresses, personal interests, hobbies etc... User can choose to draw this information dynamically from their registration profile.
You can also participate in any number of our forums. If you don’t see a forum you think is needed just let us know and we can start a new forum. You may also become a forum moderator if you would like.
Internet Job Searches can result in literally thousands of potential job opportunities. Too many job opportunities can hamper your job search because you have to try and weed your way through too many jobs; not to mention many scam artists looking for their next victim.
How can you narrow down your job search?
- Be very specific in your job search
- Weed out national/regional jobs which are usually comissions based (no real salary).
- Look for companies expanding into new markets (ie..new plants being built or store openings)
- Network with friends and family members...let them know you are looking for a new job.
- Target company career websites or niche job search boards rather than the larger job search websites like Career Builder, Monster Jobs etc.
By following this advice you should be able to find the proverbial needle in the hay stack and land your next job or begin a new career.
