Consider the following…

Professional expertise

Military personnel are known for doing their jobs exceptionally well…even under stressful conditions. They understand sacrifice is sometimes needed for the better good of the mission. When you hire a veteran with 20+ years of experience you are bringing someone to your team who understands how to lead, train and mentor future leaders, and how to manage and lead with quantifiable results in the best of times and worst of times. Today’s veterans are focused on personal development; they are well educated and have experience in the most diverse workforce around as well as experience interacting with people from around the world as representatives of the United States in foreign countries.

Teamwork

Veterans are exceptional team players and understand the importance of teamwork in their organization. Recruits learn the importance of teamwork during boot camp where they participate in drills and exercises focused on developing teamwork. They learn the importance teamwork has on the success of their company and ultimately their command’s mission. Teamwork is not a trivial issue because lives may be at stake. Whether its a helicopter crew in the Army, a ship’s crew in the Navy, a strategic bomber’s crew in the Air Force, a tank’s crew in the Marine Corps, or a cutter’s crew in the Coast Guard teamwork is essential to the successful completion of their mission. Your company deserves to have leaders who understand leadership and have made it a part of everything they do.

Goals oriented

Like teamwork, Veterans are taught how to make goals and implement them in their daily life starting in boot camp. The military is successful because the people who are the life blood of each branch of service understand goals and how to use them for success.

Demonstrated leadership skills and leadership qualities

Today’s veteran is trained to be a leader starting in basic training and has the leadership skills needed to succeed in todays business environment. They continue to receive formal leadership training in various forms throughout their career. For example:

  • The United States Marine Corps has more than five courses focused on growing leaders.
  • The Army has the Non-commissioned Officer Education System that is a series of six courses specifically designed to train Soldiers to lead at varying levels from Sergeant to Command Sergeant Major.
  • The Navy has Navy Leadership Continuum which is a career-long continuum of Navy leader development, from recruitment to retirement. A total of eight Leadership Training Courses for officer and enlisted personnel have been developed to form the cornerstone of that continuum.
  • The Air Force also has leadership training beginning with Airman Leadership School, Non-Commissioned Officer Academy to the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy.
  • The Coast Guard has The Leadership and Quality Institute focused on improving leadership and management practices in support of the Coast Guard mission.

Today’s military receives practical leadership training that is as effective in a business setting as it is on the battlefield, in a B52 over the Pacific, or on a submarine in the Atlantic. They possess the leadership qualities businesses are looking for everyday.

Character

Because of the unique mission of our military it is essential that our leaders are men and women of character. Each of the services have developed and articulated their core values in order to develop character from day one and they are reinforced daily.

  • United States Marine Corps – Honor, Courage, Commitment
  • United States Army – Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless-Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage
  • United States Navy – Honor, Courage, Commitment
  • United States Air Force – Integrity first, Service before self, and Excellence in all we do.
  • United States Coast Guard – Honor, Respect, Devotion to Duty

These are not just words set to paper but they are words recorded in the hearts and minds of those who serve. US Veterans are men and women of character.

Equal opportunity

Equal opportunity in today’s workforce is vital to the success of any company. Veterans understand firsthand how equal opportunity can affect an organization’s ability to be successful with a diverse multicultural workforce. They receive annual training focused on equal opportunity in the workplace, discrimination (age, race, sex, religion, etc), and grievance/redress procedures. In fact, many senior enlisted personnel who have received advance equal opportunity training, manage the program within their organizations.
